Overview

About this hardware

A handheld Android point-of-sale terminal: 5.99" touchscreen, integrated thermal printer, front and rear cameras for barcode and QR payments, a full-shift battery and PCI PTS 6.x certified security.

The Valor VP550 is a portable Android point-of-sale terminal - a handheld device that runs a full operating system rather than a fixed payment application. That matters in practice: it can run business applications from a marketplace, handle menu and inventory management, and take payment at the table rather than sending customers to a counter.

The hardware is built for a shift on its feet. A 5.99-inch 1440 x 720 touchscreen, an integrated 80 mm/sec thermal printer so receipts print in the customer's hand, and a 5200 mAh-equivalent battery. Two cameras are fitted: a 5 MP autofocus rear camera with a flash and a 0.3 MP front camera, both of which read 1D and 2D barcodes, so the terminal takes QR code payments and can scan stock without a separate scanner.

It accepts tap, chip and swipe, and it is certified to PCI PTS 6.x - the current generation of PIN security standard, and the highest certification of any terminal we list. For service businesses it supports pay-at-the-table, bill splitting and tip adjustment, and it supports cash discounting, dual pricing and surcharging where those are permitted and correctly configured for your business.

One point to confirm before ordering. The manufacturer's 2024 and 2025 specification documents describe this model's connectivity differently: the earlier document lists 4G and 3G cellular, Bluetooth, SAM and SD card slots and an expansion hub with Ethernet and USB, while the current document lists Wi-Fi and GPRS only, with two SIM slots and no Bluetooth or expansion hub. That suggests a hardware revision or a regional variant rather than a change of wording. If you need this terminal to work over mobile data away from Wi-Fi, or to pair with Bluetooth peripherals, we confirm the exact specification of the units being quoted before you order rather than assuming either document applies.

Whether dual pricing, surcharging or tip adjustment can be enabled depends on your merchant account and card scheme rules rather than the hardware, so we confirm those during setup.

Questions

About the Valor VP550

Will this work with my processing arrangement?
That is confirmed before anything is ordered. A terminal has to be certified for the acquiring arrangement your account runs on, and Apex checks that against your specific setup rather than assuming it.
Why are there no prices on these pages?
Hardware is quoted against how and where it will be used - how many units, whether they are bought or supplied with an account, and what has to integrate with them. A single published figure would be wrong more often than it was right, so we quote instead.
Why do some products show no specifications?
Apex publishes a specification only after it has been checked against product data. A record marked as an illustrative example represents a category of hardware we can source, and publishes nothing technical at all until there is something confirmed to publish.
What happens when a terminal fails?
Replacement and support terms are agreed as part of the arrangement rather than left to the day it matters. Ask about them before you order, not after.
