About Apex

Payments people, not a portal

The businesses that most need a payment specialist are usually the ones handed a sign-up form and left to it. Apex exists because that is backwards.

  • Card, ACH, eCheck and crypto
  • More than one processing path
  • One team, start to finish

Who we are

One relationship, several payment paths

Apex Merchant Solutions arranges and supports the payment infrastructure a business runs on: card acceptance in person and online, bank-based collection through ACH and eCheck, digital-asset settlement, the gateway that routes between them, and the terminals standing on the counter.

Most Apex merchants are conventional businesses. Shops, restaurants, professional firms, e-commerce stores - underwritten and priced as exactly that. Apex also works with specialised and complex verticals, which is where the deeper capability shows, and a traditional business is never placed on specialised terms because of who else we work with.

Why we are structured this way

Payment providers usually split the work. Sales sign the merchant, underwriting reviews the file, integration connects the gateway, and support picks up whatever happens afterwards - four teams, four handovers, and a merchant repeating themselves at each one.

Apex does not work that way. The people who set an account up are the people who answer when a payment fails or a dispute arrives. It scales less easily. It is considerably better for the merchant.

What that means in practice

Where a merchant's profile allows it, accounts are set up with more than one processing path from the start. A single processor withdrawing should not be the day a business discovers it cannot take money.

Where a profile does not allow it, we say so before anything is submitted rather than after it is declined.

Why we do it

Our mission and where we are going

Two statements, both meant literally.

  • Our mission

To make sure a business is judged on what it actually is, and to build payment arrangements that survive the day something changes - a processor withdrawing, a dispute wave, a new market, a new product line.

  • Our vision

A payments industry where "high-risk" describes an underwriting profile rather than a business worth less attention, and where a merchant can read their own numbers without a specialist to interpret them.

How we operate

Four things that do not change

Values are only worth publishing if they rule something out. Each of these does.

  • One conversation

Underwriting, integration and support are the same team. You are not handed between departments, and nobody says "that is not my area".

  • More than one path

Where the profile allows it, accounts are built with a fallback rather than a single point of failure. Redundancy is arranged before it is needed, because afterwards is too late.

  • Nothing overstated

No promise of approval, a rate, a saving or a timeline before underwriting has looked at the business. If a case is weak we say so while there is still time to strengthen it.

  • Visible numbers

Approval rates, declines and disputes should be something a merchant can see, not something they learn about from a statement six weeks later.

Why Apex

Why businesses choose Apex

Usually after an arrangement somewhere else stopped working.

  • The file is prepared properly

Most declines are not a judgement on the business. They are a file that did not answer the questions underwriting was going to ask.

  • Several rails, one account team

Cards, ACH, eCheck and digital assets arranged together rather than bolted on by four separate providers.

  • Disputes are treated as operational

Chargebacks are a process problem before they are a fraud problem. Fixing the process is what moves the ratio.

  • Integration is not left to you

Gateway, platform and terminal work is done alongside your developers rather than handed over as documentation.

  • Complex profiles are normal here

International, subscription, multi-entity and specialised verticals are routine rather than exceptions to be worked around.

  • Support that knows the account

The people answering already know how the account was built, because they built it.

Industries we support

Where Apex works

From everyday retail to the verticals most providers decline on sight.

See all industries

Retail

Counter, kiosk and multi-site retail, with terminals and reporting that match how the shop actually runs.

Flagship vertical

Peptides & research products

Payment infrastructure for peptide and research-product businesses, built around underwriting rather than around a single processor.

E-commerce

Online retail on an established platform or a custom build, with checkout tuned for conversion and disputes kept in check.

Specialised vertical

CBD & hemp

Card and bank-based acceptance for CBD and hemp merchants, with the compliance documentation prepared before submission.

Professional services

Invoiced and retainer billing for firms and consultancies, where ACH usually beats cards on the larger tickets.

Specialised vertical

Crypto & Web3

Platforms, marketplaces and Web3 businesses that need both fiat acceptance and digital-asset settlement.

Where a label appears on a card it describes the shape of the payment arrangement, not a judgement on the business behind it.

Our process

How an Apex account comes together

Four stages. Nothing reaches an acquirer until you have seen what is going into it.

  1. Understand the business

How you sell, what you sell, where your customers are, and what your current arrangement does badly.

  2. Prepare the file

Documentation, policies and processing history assembled to answer what underwriting will ask - before it asks.

  3. Place and integrate

Submission to the paths that suit the profile, then gateway, platform and hardware work done with your team.

  4. Watch the numbers

Approvals, declines and disputes reviewed as operational data, not as a monthly statement to file away.

Timelines depend on the profile, the industry and how quickly documentation arrives. Apex does not publish an average, because an average across very different businesses would not tell you anything about yours.

Our approach

What we will and will not tell you

Payments is an industry with a lot of confident language in it. Guaranteed approval, lowest rates, instant onboarding. Almost none of it survives contact with an underwriter.

What Apex does not do

Apex does not guarantee approval, a rate, a saving or a timeline. Underwriting decisions belong to the acquiring institution. Our work is to put the strongest accurate case in front of it, and to tell you honestly when a case is weak.

We do not quote a rate before we have seen how a business actually processes. A number produced without that is a number invented to win a conversation, and it changes the moment anybody looks properly.

We do not evaluate, endorse or verify the products a merchant sells. Apex provides payment infrastructure. Whether a product is legal, compliant and accurately described is the merchant's responsibility, and we will ask about it because underwriting will.

What we will tell you

Whether we think a file is likely to be placed, and what would improve it. Which parts of your current arrangement are ordinary and which are genuinely poor. When the honest answer is that your existing provider is fine and switching would gain you very little.

That last one costs us business occasionally. It is still the right answer.

Questions

Frequently asked

The questions that come up before anybody signs anything.

Does Apex only work with high-risk businesses?

No. Most Apex merchants are conventional businesses - shops, restaurants, professional firms, e-commerce stores - underwritten and priced as exactly that. Apex also handles specialised and complex verticals, which is where the deeper capability shows, but a traditional business is not placed on specialised terms because of who else we work with.

How is pricing decided?

Pricing follows underwriting. Card mix, average ticket, refund and chargeback history, the industry and how you take payment all feed into it. Apex does not quote a rate before seeing those, and does not guarantee a rate or a saving in advance.

Can Apex guarantee my account will be approved?

No, and no payment provider can. Approval is an underwriting decision. What Apex does is prepare the file properly before it is submitted - the website, the policies, the documentation and the processing history - which is what usually decides the outcome.

What happens if my current processor drops my account?

That is a common reason merchants come to Apex. Where the profile allows it, accounts are set up with more than one processing path from the start, so a single withdrawal does not stop revenue while a replacement is arranged.

Can I take card, bank and crypto payments together?

Yes, where the business qualifies for each. Card, ACH, eCheck and digital-asset settlement can run alongside one another under the same merchant relationship, with the gateway routing between them. What is available depends on the business type and underwriting.

Will Apex work with my existing website and systems?

Usually. Apex integrates with established storefront platforms, billing systems and CRMs, and does direct API work where an off-the-shelf plugin does not fit. Replacing a working system is rarely the right recommendation.

How long does onboarding take?

It depends on the industry and how complete the documentation is when it is submitted. A conventional business with its paperwork in order moves quickly; a specialised vertical takes longer because the file has to be prepared properly. Apex gives a realistic expectation up front rather than a headline number.

What does Apex do about chargebacks?

Alerting where the card network and issuer support it, structured evidence submission for disputes, and monitoring of the ratio across the account so a problem is visible before it threatens the merchant account. No provider can prevent chargebacks, and Apex does not claim to.
