Overview

About this hardware

The largest handheld in the Dejavoo range: a 6.517" Gorilla Glass touchscreen, a dedicated barcode scanning engine alongside the cameras, an integrated thermal printer, mobile data and PCI PTS 5.x certified security with SRED.

The Dejavoo P8 is the largest handheld in this range and the one built for scanning. Alongside the 8 MP rear camera it carries a dedicated barcode scanning engine, which is a different thing from camera-based scanning: a purpose-built engine reads faster, reads damaged labels, and keeps reading in poor light. For stock, ticketing or anywhere a queue forms behind a scan, that difference is the whole point of the device.

The screen is 6.517 inches of HD IPS behind Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is a meaningful specification on a device that gets handed to customers and dropped on hard floors. It runs Android 11 on an eight-core processor with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, with a higher configuration available as an option, so it has room for a POS application rather than only a payment app.

Security is where it separates itself from the rest of this range. It is the only Dejavoo in our catalog whose manufacturer documentation states a PCI PTS level: PCI PTS 5.x with SRED, meaning card data is encrypted in the reading hardware itself rather than after it reaches the application. It accepts tap, chip and swipe, prints its own receipts, and the front camera supports optional face identification for staff sign-in.

Four things to confirm before ordering. Dejavoo's 05/24 and 09/24 documents for this model disagree about the scanner engine, the Bluetooth generation, the receipt paper width (57mm in one, 58mm in the other) and the card slots. Both readings are published in the specifications below rather than us choosing one. The card slots matter most: both documents say the device has 2G, 3G and 4G mobile data, but the newer one lists no SIM slot at all, which cannot be the full picture. If you need mobile data, a particular scanner engine, or you are about to order a case of receipt rolls, ask us and we will confirm the exact configuration with the manufacturer first.

Questions

About the Dejavoo P8

Will this work with my processing arrangement?
That is confirmed before anything is ordered. A terminal has to be certified for the acquiring arrangement your account runs on, and Apex checks that against your specific setup rather than assuming it.
Why are there no prices on these pages?
Hardware is quoted against how and where it will be used - how many units, whether they are bought or supplied with an account, and what has to integrate with them. A single published figure would be wrong more often than it was right, so we quote instead.
Why do some products show no specifications?
Apex publishes a specification only after it has been checked against product data. A record marked as an illustrative example represents a category of hardware we can source, and publishes nothing technical at all until there is something confirmed to publish.
What happens when a terminal fails?
Replacement and support terms are agreed as part of the arrangement rather than left to the day it matters. Ask about them before you order, not after.
