Overview

About this hardware

A customer-facing PIN pad rather than a standalone terminal: 2.4" colour touchscreen, included stylus, signature capture, and tap, chip and swipe acceptance. Connects to a host till or POS system by RS232 or USB.

The Valor VP300 is a PIN pad: a customer-facing device that handles card entry and PIN capture for a till or point-of-sale system it plugs into. It is not a standalone card machine. It has no printer, no network connection of its own and no battery, and it connects by RS232 or USB to a host system that runs the sale and prints the receipt. If you need a device that works on its own, the VP100 is the countertop terminal in this range.

What it is designed to do, it does well. The PIN entry process is protected by PCI PTS 5.x certified security, which is the point of a dedicated PIN pad: the cardholder's PIN is entered into hardened hardware rather than into a shared screen. A 2.4-inch colour touchscreen with an included stylus handles digital signature capture, and there is a built-in customer feedback rating system for businesses that want to collect satisfaction scores at the counter.

It accepts tap, chip and swipe. Contactless is EMV Contactless L1 and supports Mifare and FeliCa alongside the standard schemes.

Because it works as part of a wider setup, whether the VP300 suits your counter depends on what it needs to connect to. We confirm compatibility with your existing till or POS software before quoting rather than after, since the connection is by serial or USB and not every system accepts both.

Questions

About the Valor VP300

Will this work with my processing arrangement?
That is confirmed before anything is ordered. A terminal has to be certified for the acquiring arrangement your account runs on, and Apex checks that against your specific setup rather than assuming it.
Why are there no prices on these pages?
Hardware is quoted against how and where it will be used - how many units, whether they are bought or supplied with an account, and what has to integrate with them. A single published figure would be wrong more often than it was right, so we quote instead.
Why do some products show no specifications?
Apex publishes a specification only after it has been checked against product data. A record marked as an illustrative example represents a category of hardware we can source, and publishes nothing technical at all until there is something confirmed to publish.
What happens when a terminal fails?
Replacement and support terms are agreed as part of the arrangement rather than left to the day it matters. Ask about them before you order, not after.

  • One conversation Equipment, underwriting, integration and support are handled by the same team.
